The Story Of The Flying Painting

10% of the sale will go to Lab Rescuers, CA
Well if you have been on my web site you know I have this as SOLD but offer Giclee's. It's Comfortable Love. The center painting for alot of my shows.
About a year ago maybe I did an outdoor dog show where other vendors/artists were showing their work. Friends that I went with were also showing in this event.
The day was so slow it was almost unbearable but we smiled and had fun amoung ourselves. Then the wind came. Out of no where, ah Florida, it hit the 40 x40 painting and the whole display started to fall. My friends say I went into slow motion leaping for the painting, I tripped over something and now was airborne. Comfortable Love and me!! The canvas hit the corner of my painting box and put a "T" shapped cut in the canvas, I landed on top of the whole display with knees and arms scrapped... Needless to say we packed up the truck and headed home, only to find I had Red oil paint on my hand and it got on my firends seats. (He did get it off) They also re-enacted the slow-mo event quite often after that since they never saw anyone and a huge painting in air before!! LOL.
I couldn't even look at the painting til a few days ago. My husband Roger has found he has serious heart damage plus blockage and will be having stints put in. I know he will be fine but if by any chance he has to leave his job I'm the breadwinner. I'm trained in Art so I need to be more business like. (Oh no I have to get organized..LOL..a Pisces with ADHD..LOL..)
I'm listing this piece, 40 " X 40" for $1200.00 or best offer on Ebay. If you are intersted in this painting please email me or search for sophie316 on ebay. It is oil on Gallerywrap and offered way below the original price. I will concider any offer. Free shipping for anything over $600.00.
Thank you...and Prayers will be accepted also. Warmly, Sheila

Ray and Shaq

This is our dear friend Ray and his beloved Shaq. Mr. Shaq as we refered to him. He was a regular visitor and Sophie's boyfriend, and she doesn't take to male Labs. Her eyes sparkled when he came through the door. The largest, tallest Lab I ever met, gentle, sweet, a champion field trial dog and now 16 years old. Shaq went to the Rainbow Brige this morning.
Shaq was the subject of many of my Lab paintings. His face was beautiful. I'm attaching Ray's Obituary that he posted on HotLab Rescue awhile ago. He will be in our hearts also. Our sweet Shaq.

Shaq Obituary

Dear Friends of Shaq,

It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that Shaq, my best friend over the last 16 years, has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. He joins my beloved Shasta, Zoe and Nanda waiting for me to join them.

Over the past few days Shaq had trouble lying down and it was clearly painful for him to get down. He had more trouble with his balance and would run into things. Rather then prolong the agony I decided to do what I hope others will do for me one day and help him over the rainbow bridge.

Shaq was born in Montana, He lived an amazing life having been a champion field trial and big air dog. He traveled everywhere with me, including each time I went home to Montana. He loved going to Montana, when we would go over Bozeman Pass he would perk up and get excited. He also loved visiting the cabin in Polaris. Here is a link to his stories. www.shaqtails.blogspot.com

I have known that this day was coming. I had hoped that he could last until after the upcoming Heart of Texas Lab Rescue Fundraiser at The Fairmount Hotel on Nov 7th and make an appearance. But it was not to be. So many were looking forward to seeing him.

I have many wonderful paintings and pictures of my dear Shaq to remember him by. He will live forever in my heart. I will always remember the days he and Shasta would spend swimming at Red Bud Isle.

If you could make a donation to Heart of Texas Lab Rescue in his name he would appreciate it. www.hotlabrescue.org.

Goodbye Dear Friend

Please Meet Royal

Meet Royal:

On July 25th a young black Labrador was picked up by Animal Control in San Bernardino. He was taken to the shelter hoping his family would come and get him. Sadly they never came, but Labradors and Friends Dog Rescue did and we pulled him. I know this story sounds all too familiar, but for Royal it truly was life saving. You see Royal had been hit by a car. His rear legs were paralyzed, hip was dislocated, he was emaciated and had cuts all over his body. Even with all of this he was happy to see the rescue ladies and gave kisses the whole time.

Royal was taken to the vet immediately, the initial assessment wasn’t good. Royal wasn’t moving his rear legs, he couldn’t stand and he didn’t have control of his bodily functions. X-rays didn’t show anything definitive and it was suggested he should be euthanized. Thankfully, for Royal, the volunteer (now his foster mom) who transported him to the vet wasn’t ready to give up; you see Royal could wag his tail; that was a sign!

Royal was put on steroid therapy and was picked up by his foster mom to see if he could regain some mobility in his rear, if he could then we would get him the surgery he needed to repair his hip. After 2 days there was improvement and by the 4th day Royal had regained bowel control and was slowly starting to get up and walk around. During this time trying to get Royal to eat was a big challenge. It seems Royal was deathly afraid of his food bowel. He would turn his head away and not eat. He was already down to 51 pounds (he should be about 70-75) and was skin and bones. I would sit and hand feed him out of the bowl telling him he was a good boy and finally he regained my trust and started to eat on his own. By the end of the week he was eating and walking so we set up his surgery.

The following Friday Royal had his FHO surgery. For the first week he was on crate rest and then we slowly started walking him around a little. After 2 weeks his sutures were taken out and we increased the walks. At 3 weeks post op Royal began swim therapy to strengthen his leg. As you can see, Royal loves the water and is slowly beginning to regain strength and well on his way to recovery.

Please Meet Chance

SOLD
Chance is a 7-year old yellow neutered male. He weighs 83 lbs, but should be about 90. He's up to date on shots and heartworm negative. According to his foster, he's good with the neighbor's kids. He's good with other dogs, knows commands, is good on lead and crate trained. He loves to have his belly scratched! He has a very acute sense of where all the tennis balls are in his fosters house and backyard. He does not care about any other toys. He is a sweet dog. He had to have an Entropion operation on his eyelids and he has an old injury to his front left leg, which does not seem to bother him but it gives him a rolling walk.

This oil is painted on Archival RayMar canvas board. It will last a lifetime. Proceeds from the sale of this Lab Painting will go to Lab Rescue of the L.R.C.P.

Thanks for your support and help saving a Lab a day! Sheila $145.00 plus S&H

True Essence of The Lab-General

"General here, a fine gentleman and quite handsome young boy. The rescue folks tell me I have a great temperament and am an all-around nice dog. I’ve got just the right energy level, am friendly with everyone and a great car traveler. I know some basic doggie skills, but I sure hope my new family takes me to a basic obedience refresher course so I can hone in on my skills. You won't find a better frisbee player though"
This oil painting of the frisbee Lab is on 6" square Archival RayMar canvas board. Proceeds from the sale of this painting will be going to Labradors and Friends, San Diego. Thanks for helping to save a Lab today!!!
